Bay IVF Center

1681 El Camino Real, Palo Alto, CA 94306

Bay IVF Center reported 232 ART cycles to the CDC for 2022, below the median of 484 cycles among the 85 CDC-reporting clinics in California. For patients using their own eggs, the CDC published a percentage for patients under 35, 35–37 and 38–40; one band has no published rate. The CDC lists donor eggs, embryo cryopreservation, egg cryopreservation and gestational carrier among its services. It is a SART member (Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology).

How to read these CDC rates

  • Most figures are the share of this clinic's 2022 cycles in one age band (counted per intended retrieval, retrieval or transfer, as each row says) that led to a live-birth delivery, as reported to the CDC. The number of cycles behind the headline rate is printed beside it; a rate built on few cycles can move a lot from year to year.
  • A fraction such as “9 of 15” means fewer than 20 cycles; a dash means the CDC suppressed the figure or published none.
  • The CDC advises that “comparisons between clinics should be made with caution. Clinics may have different rates because they have different patient populations or ART treatment methods.” A rate is not a measure of clinic quality and cannot predict an individual outcome.

“US” is the CDC national figure for the same measure and group. “—”: the CDC published no value. Its asterisk (*) means a reported sample size of 1 through 4, suppressed for privacy, along with any value that could be used to derive it. A value such as “9 of 15” is the CDC's own fraction: the CDC uses fractions for rates with denominators less than 20. It is not converted to a percentage.

Cycle characteristics (2022)

Context for the rates: how often cycles stopped early, and how much of the clinic's practice is frozen transfer, ICSI, PGT, fertility preservation and gestational carriers.

Reasons patients used ART (2022)

Diagnoses as reported to the CDC; a cycle can have more than one, so the shares add to more than 100%. This is the patient mix behind the rates above.

  • Endometriosis 3%
  • Tubal factor 19%
  • Ovulatory dysfunction 28%

What the measures mean

Intended egg retrieval
A cycle started “with the plan to retrieve eggs”, counted whether or not any eggs were retrieved, so cancelled cycles stay in the denominator. Rates per intended retrieval are cumulative: they count live births from every embryo transfer within 1 year after that retrieval, fresh or frozen.
Egg retrieval (actual)
“A procedure to collect the eggs contained in the ovarian follicles.” Rates per actual retrieval are cumulative in the same way but leave out cycles cancelled before retrieval, so they are never lower than the rate per intended retrieval.
Transfer
“Placement of embryos into a woman's uterus through the cervix after IVF.” A rate per transfer counts each transfer on its own, so cycles that never reached a transfer are not in it. It is not always the highest rate: in 2022 the US figure for patients under 35 was 49.1% per transfer against 49.7% per intended retrieval. In the older bands, where many cycles never reach a transfer, it is usually higher (over 40: 25.4% per transfer, 7.7% per intended retrieval).
Live-birth delivery
“The delivery of one or more infants with at least one born alive.” A singleton live-birth delivery is “the delivery of a single infant born alive.”
New patients: cumulative outcomes
Patients with no prior ART, followed through one, two, or all of their intended retrievals, counting transfers of fresh or frozen embryos from those retrievals. This is the closest the report comes to “my chance of a baby from starting treatment”.
Age bands
The CDC groups patients using their own eggs as under 35, 35 to 37, 38 to 40, and over 40, because egg quality falls with the patient's age. Donor-egg rates are not split by age: the donor's age drives them, not the patient's.
